Section 4.3 hosts the DEUQUA2022 conference of the German Quaternary Association under the theme ‘Connecting Geoarchives’ from September 25th to 29th at the GFZ Potsdam.

In five scientific sessions new methods and ideas of exploiting terrestrial and marine geoarchives to decipher past climate changes, their causes and impacts on the Earth’s surface will be discussed. Each session will be introduced by an invited international keynote speaker. One more session is dedicated to advances in regional Quaternary geology in Germany.

The scientific program serves the topics 2 ‘Oceans and Cryosphere in Climate Change’ and 5 ‘Landscapes of the Future’ of the research program ‘Changing Earth – Sustaining our future’ of the Helmholtz Association.

In addition to the scientific program, the conference discusses knowledge transfer in modern science and offers courses for early career researchers in data analyses and publication of research data. Part of the program are four field excursions in classical Quaternary landscapes of Northeastern Germany as well as a public evening lecture on the role of palaeoclimate research in the recent climate debate.
