We are delighted to welcome Dr. Derek Neuharth back to our section!
Derek completed his PhD at GFZ and worked with Sascha Brune and Anne Glerum on coupling the surface process code FastScape with the geodynamics code ASPECT. This coupling was then applied to rift and stike-slip areas to better understand how their evolution is affected by erosion and sedimentation. He then worked as a postdoc at ETH Zurich, researching large-scale 3D dynamic subduction systems and the formation of accretionary wedges in small-scale 2D subduction areas. Back at GFZ, Derek Neuharth will work on modeling CO2 degassing in rift systems in our section as part of the EMERGE project.
