Dr. Bernd Schurr
Function and Responsibilities:
Senior ScientistResearch Interests:
I am a seismologist interested in the tectonics of convergent plate boundaries. I am working both in subduction and collision zones. In subduction zones, I am studying the occurrence and controls of large megathrust earthquakes and processes inside the oceanic slab as it plunges into the mantle. In collision zones, I am interested in lithospheric scale deformation processes accompanying mountain building. My main working regions are South America and Central Asia.
Career:
Since 2007 Research Scientist in the Lithosphere Dynamics Section.
2001-2007 Research Scientist at the CTBTO.
1997-2001 Phd student and PostDoc at the GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam (GFZ), SFB 267 "Deformation Processes in the Andes"
Education:
2000 PhD Geophysics Freie Universität Berlin
1997 MSc Geophysics, College of Oceanic & Atmospheric Sciences, Oregon State University
1992 Vordiplom Geophysics, Universität Karlsruhe (TH)
