Head of Working Group 2 "Terrestrial and Airborne Gravimetry" and Deputy Section Head

Research Interests:

  • Satellite Geodesy
  • Gravimetry and Gravity Field determination
  • Applications of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) in Geodesy
  • Scientific computer programming, especially using FORTRAN, Perl
  • Scientific high performance computing

Education:

  • 1978 High-school diploma at the former Leibniz-Oberschule in Schkeuditz (Saxony, Germany)
  • 1980-1985 University Leipzig, studies of physics, diploma about 1H-NMR relaxation of hydrocarbons adsorbed on zeolithes
  • 1985-1988 Research Student at University Leipzig / Department "Grenzflächenphysik", doctoral thesis: "NMR investigations about the self diffusion of benzene adsorbed on NaX-zeolith and silicalite"
  • 1988-1990 Research Scientist, former Zentralinstitut für Physik der Erde (ZIPE), Potsdam
  • 1990-1991 Research Scientist, Deutsches Geodätisches Forschungsinstitut, Munich
  • since 1992 Research Scientist at GFZ Potsdam/Section 1.2

  • Gravity Field determination from the combination of CHAMP , GRACE, GOCE and surface data
  • Satellite Gravity Gradiometry and the GOCE mission
  • ESA-Project "GOCE High-level Processing Facility" (HPF)
  • Ship gravimetry, among others within the FAMOS project (Finalising Surveys for the Baltic Motorways of the Sea)
