Career:

I am Julia Pimenta, Brazilian geologist. I obtained a BSc degree in Geology from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil, and a MSc degree from the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP), Brazil. My MSc research focussed on an auriferous quartz lode in the town of Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais. During my undergraduate course, I had the opportunity to be part of an exchange programme, having spent one year attending the Earth and Ocean Sciences course at the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG). After my MSc degree, I worked for three and a half years as an exploration geologist for gold in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero of Minas Gerais, first for Jaguar Mining (greenfields) and then for AngloGold Ashanti (brownfields), specifically at the Córrego do Sítio gold mine.
