Function and Responsibilities:

Head of the laser ranging station POT3:

  • Improvement and optimization of regular operations
  • New developments including active participation in the future POT4
  • Coordination of tasks, projects and others
  • Reach out activities promoting the visibility of the station and our regular activities
  • Data analysis and quality assurance of observations

Technical Point of Contact for the laser retroreflectors (LRR):

  • Responsible for different work packages for future missions with on-board LRR
  • Responsible for the optical characterization of LRR
  • New developments and optimization of existing concepts or procedures

New projects:

  • European Laser Time Transfer Experiment
  • Enhancement of signal detection algorithms and observation procedures
  • New applications of laser ranging

Research Interests:

  • Mathematical and physical modelling of complex systems
  • Celestial mechanics, Geodesy

Career:

03.2023 - 03.2024 Postdoc at the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern. Design and installation of a high power space debris laser. Software development for the processing of observations. Development of Validation and Qualification procedures for the Expert Centre supported by the European Space Agency.

03.2022-03.2023 Research Associate at the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern. Feasibility analysis of different projects for the Expert Centre and the European Space Agency. New developments at the Swiss Optical Ground Station and Geodynamics Observatory, in Zimmerwald, Switzerland.

03.2018-03.2022 Doctoral candidate at the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern. Title of the dissertation: Efficient Laser Ranging to Space Debris.
