Function and Responsibilities:
Environmental seismologist at section 4.5 with research focus on interrogating the Earth's surface processes using seismological methods.
Research Interests:
So far, most of my research activities fall within the scope of imaging and monitoring by exploiting the energy of various processes such as earthquakes, seismic ambient noise, volcanic tremor,... More specifically, my interests encompass:
- Ambient noise monitoring
- Ambient noise tomography
- Environmental seismology; monitoring environmental (meteorological, cryological, and hydrological) processes with seismological toolsets
- Monitoring and exploring volcanic process dynamics and the medium changes they cause with the help of seismological tools
- Further the understanding of the dynamic coupling of tectonic, environmental, and volcanic processes to seismologically measurable medium properties (such as seismic velocity, seismic attenutation, anisotropy)
- Imaging with teleseismic waves on regional and global scales
- Structure and dynamics of the Earth's upper mantle
- Scientific programming
- Exploration and classification of unusual seismic signals of environmental or biological nature
