Lago Grande di Monticchio - Archive for Palaeoclimate, Environment and Tephrochronology

Laminated sediments recovered from the maar lake Lago Grande di Monticchio in southern Italy provide detailed information about the regional climatic and environmental development and unique chronostratigraphic information about the explosive activity of nearby (100-540 km) Quaternary Italian volcanoes.

The last interglacial in Monticchio

Lago Grande di Monticchio is the larger of two adjacent maar lakes (Laghi di Monticchio) within a caldera on the western slopes of the Monte Vulture (1326 m a.s.l., 40°56'N, 15°35'E) in the Basilicata region of southern Italy.
