Helmholtz-Alberta-Initiative / Geoelektrical Monitoring
The Helmholtz-Alberta-Initiative (HAI) is an independent, international research collaboration between the Helmholtz association and the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada). The resulting synergy of scientific expertise contributes to global energy and environmental challenges. In the frame of Theme 3 (Carbon storage), the Centre for Geological Storage CGS develops methods for measurement, monitoring and verification (MMV) of geological storage reservoirs together with the Canadian partners. The focus is directed on the development of reliable and cost-efficient seismic and geoelectric monitoring systems that optimize qualitative imaging and enable quantitative analyses under consideration of specific petrophysical relationships. It is our intention to demonstrate the effectiveness of these optimized system in the frame of a collaborative field applications at other CO2 storage test sites.
1st: Panel discussion on meeting future energy demands at the 3rd scientific forum of the Helmholtz-Alberta-Initiative in Edmonton (09/2013).
2nd: Sandstone cores from the Ketzin reservoir for petrophysical analysis at the University of Alberta.
3rd and 4th: Laboratory work during a scientific visit of GFZ PhD students at the GeoREF facility of Dr. Chalaturnyk at the University of Alberta.
