The Black Forest Observatory is located in South-West Germany. It started to operate as a geophysical observatory in 1971 with a short period seismometer and by December 1982 observations of the geomagnetic field variations were added. The observatory became member of the INTERMAGNET network in 2006. BFO is jointly operated by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the University of Stuttgart.
GFZ is responsible for data calibration and processing of the geomagnetic data.
