CO2-SO2-NOx-Stimulated Rock Alteration
The interdisciplinary project “COSONOStRA – CO2-SO2-NOX-Stimulated Rock Alteration” provides fundamental data as a prerequisite for reliable modeling of the long term behavior of mineral phases and formation fluids in a reservoir-cap rock system used for geological CO2 storage.
The experiments will cover the whole concentration range of possible contaminants such like SO2, NO2, and O2 in industrials the captured CO2. One subproject will investigate the chemical reactions and focus on the mineralogical and chemical alteration processes whereas the second subproject will study the changes in the petrophysical and mechanical properties of the reservoir and cap rocks caused by these processes.
