In the event of a major earthquake or volcanic unrest, the Physics of Earthquakes and Volcanoes Section, in collaboration with the sections for Seismology and Seismic Hazard, provides information to the public and press and, where possible, develops public earthquake posters. The posters explain in a nutshell what has happened and explain the seismic, tectonic and geophysical context.
