GMS is a software package of programs and tools developed at GFZ facilitating 3D structural and isostatic modelling of sedimentary basins. GMS is permanently further developed and new methods will be implemented. The system contains the essential methods to build 3D models and includes a visualisation library.
Both, a method to calculate the redistribution of salt depending on load and a backstripping algorithm allow the reconstruction of paleo models. A finite element code is used to compute 3D pressure and temperature distribution within the models for further modelling. The code is written in C++ by using the OpenGL library.
