Occupational safety at the GFZ
"Occupational safety is a state of hazard-free work that is to be achieved through preventive occupational health and safety measures. The primary goal is to ensure the safety and health of employees in the workplace and to successfully and sustainably avert hazards or stress."
The GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam attaches great importance to occupational health and safety; the health of all employees is our greatest asset. Occupational health and safety is therefore a fundamental part of our corporate culture.
The Occupational Safety Unit has the task of supporting compliance with all relevant laws and regulations in the field of occupational safety at the GFZ and its branch offices. It is available to the responsible managers and employees as an advisor when it comes to the fulfillment of their tasks and duties as well as questions relating to occupational health and safety.
The safety specialists/engineers provide information on the legal requirements, make practical occupational health and safety documents available and offer solution-oriented support, particularly with questions relating to risk assessment and the resulting protective measures.
Compliance with the statutory regulations on occupational safety and fire and environmental protection in the work areas of the GFZ is monitored during regular inspections.
The Occupational Safety department is also the point of contact for the following areas
- fire protection
- radiation protection
- Laser protection
- Biological safety
- Infection protection
- Maternity protection
- Occupational health care
- Hazardous substance management/disposal
- Occupational health and safety committee
