The GFZ had a visit from presenter and Twitch streamer Sofia Kats and Felix Pohl, postdoc from the UFZ. As part of Berlin Science Week, which takes place again from 1 to 10 November, they report live for three to four hours with smartphone cameras from various institutes and talk to scientists in detail about their research topics. Followers can ask questions in the live chat. Language is German.
On the first GFZ day, Mathias Zöllner (Section 1.4 Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics) presented research with drones, Henryk Dobslaw and Eva Börgens (both Section 1.3 Earth System Modelling) presented our satellite mission GRACE-FO, which measures Earth’s gravity field and changes in the global water balance.

On the second GFZ day, Matthias Rosenau (Section 4.1 Dynamics of the Litosphere) showed how mountains are formed in the ‘analogue laboratory’. The topic of Frederik Tilmann, Laura Hillmann (both Section 2.4 Seismology) and Christopher Wollin (Section 2.2 Geophysical Imaging of the Subsurface) was: How do we measure and analyse earthquakes worldwide? There were insights into the GEOFON network for global earthquake monitoring, the Geophysical Instrument Pool Potsdam (GIPP) and the use of optical fibres in seismology.
