Jens Wickert was appointed to the GNSS Science Advisory Board by the Secretary General of the European Space Agency ESA and has been working in this important advisory body since the beginning of 2021. The nomination is a high honor and recognition of long-term achievements, which is only granted to experienced scientists. Scientific advice is provided on all topics in the field of 'Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)'.
The main focus is on the development of the next generation of the European satellite navigation system Galileo. The second generation, whose development is almost complete, will be implemented from 2024. Intensive work is already underway on the concepts and implementation of the third generation.
Mr. Wickert will primarily contribute to aspects of the use of GNSS for remote sensing of the atmosphere and ionosphere as well as the Earth's surface. The participation in the GNSS Science Advisory Board is initially limited to three years with the option to extend.
