Judith M. Schicks studied chemistry at the Gerhard Mercator University in Duisburg and received her doctorate there in 1999 in the field of applied physical chemistry. From 2000 to 2001, she received a fellowship from the Max Planck Society and conducted research at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research. Since 2001 she has been working at the German Research Centre for Geosciences GFZ. Her scientific focus is on gas hydrate research. The research group she leads is concerned with both the study of fundamental processes at the molecular level and possible application at the pilot plant scale. In 2013, she habilitated at the University of Potsdam in the scientific discipline of physical chemistry on the topic of gas hydrates.
