Lioba Virchow geoscientist of the month June at DVGeo

The PhD student in the ‘Geoenergy’ section is being honoured by the umbrella organisation for geosciences. In addition to her hydrogeological research, she is also involved in the ‘Young FH-DGGV’.

Lioba Virchow, PhD student in Section 4.8 ‘Geoenergy’, is currently being honoured as geoscientist of the month June by the umbrella organisation for geosciences DVGeo. In addition to her hydrogeological research, she is also involved in the ‘Young FH-DGGV’ network.

DVGeo pays tribute to Lioba Virchow on its website as follows:

“Lioba is a PhD student at the GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam in the Geoenergy section. There she investigates rock-water interactions during temperature increases in the context of high-temperature heat storage in the deep underground.

During her studies of geotechnologies at the TU Berlin, specialising in hydrogeology and geochemistry, she already dealt with heat storage as part of her bachelor's thesis. For her master's thesis, she analysed the distribution and origin of fluoride in the rocks and groundwater of the Aluto volcanic complex in the East African Rift Valley, Ethiopia.

In addition to her scientific work, which also includes regular field and drilling site work, she is a member of the board and advisory board of the Hydrogeology Section of the DGGV e.V..

She played a key role in founding the Young Scientists Network, which promotes the exchange and support of young hydrogeology enthusiasts. She also inspires young students and those interested in hydrogeology to take an interest in hydrogeological topics, for example at the Long Night of Science and by supervising interns. Her commitment is motivated by her awareness of the importance of groundwater as a critical and vital resource, the sustainable use and protection of which she seeks to promote through her research and networking.”

Congratulations to her!
