Reinhard Hüttl, Chairperson of the Board and Scientific Executive Director of the German Research Centre for Geosciences GFZ, and Julia Fischer from the German Primate Center have been elected as the new Vice - Presidents of the Berlin - Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW). From October 1, they will support the President of the BBAW, Christoph Markschies, in his activities.
Hüttl has been Chairperson of the Executive Board of the German Research Centre for Geosciences Potsdam since 2007. In addition, he holds a chair of Soil protection and recultivation at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus - Senftenberg.
Julia Fischer is Head of Cognitive Ethology Laboratory at the German Primate Center and Professor at the Georg - August - University in Göttingen.
With its currently 381 elected members, the Berlin - Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities aims to promote the sciences in Berlin and Brandenburg. It is active in the field of social and political consulting, promotes communication between science and society and strengthens the cooperation between non - university institutes and the universities in both states.
