The blast was heard over quite a distance as a World War 2 bomb was detonated by specialists in Potsdam last friday. Window panes on Telegrafenberg vibrated. And in GFZ’s offices at Helmholtzstraße, scientists detected the seismic signal of the bomb. Their result: The ground shaking caused by the blast was hardly discernible from normal ground movements caused by heavy traffic or construction machines. The detonation can be compared to a mini earthquake with a magnitude of 1,8. (jz)
