The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has awarded Sagar Masuti a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship. It is given to scientists and scholars with above-average qualifications from all over the world. The research fellowship for postdoctoral researchers is endowed with a monthly stipend of 2,670 Euros. It enables scientists and scholars who are at the beginning of their research career to realise their research project in Germany.
Sagar Masuti will work in Section 4.2 "Geomechanics and Scientific Drilling", which is headed by Marco Bohnhoff. His research will focus on the transient creep of crustal and mantle rocks. Based on his and other theoretical models, he will carry out experimental investigations on corresponding samples using the GFZ high-temperature deformation facilities to explore the mechanisms of transient strength development under different boundary conditions. The results are important for understanding earthquake cycles, post-glacial uplift and other non-stationary creep processes.
Sagar Masuti received his PhD from Nanyang University, Singapore in 2020 and has since been working at Tohoku University, Japan. His research interests include earthquake physics, post-seismic deformation and rheology, i.e. the deformation and flow behaviour of rocks. In this context, he has written a number of very interesting publications as an expert in numerical modelling.
