The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam - GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is the national centre for research into the geosphere. With around 1,650 employees, we develop a sound understanding of systems and processes of the solid Earth as well as strategies and options for action to counter global change, understand natural hazards and sustainably secure energy and raw material requirements.

For section Section 2.7: Space Physics and Space Weather (department “Geophysics”), we are looking for a:

Science Coordinator (f_m_x) Space Physics and Space Weather

Our section is working on understanding the dynamical evolution of the hazardous space radiation environment and developing tools for specification and prediction of the adverse effects of the space environment utilizing physics-based numerical models and data assimilation. In our research, we try to bridge our theoretical studies with high-performance tools that can be used in science, predictions, and applications. 

Your responsibilities:

  • Editing publications, proposals and presentations
  • Drafting budgetary and other administrative documents
  • Assistance with arrangements of meetings and coordination of efforts
  • Interactions with stakeholders within Germany and EU Commission
  • Writing scientific proposals and coordinating multi-campus science projects
  • Performance of various administrative tasks
  • Coordinating the DFG research unit

Your qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Geosciences, Science communication or related disciplines
  • Excellent knowledge of English (native speaker level preferred)
  • Ability to interact with scientists and engineers
  • Ability and willingness to perform complex administrative tasks
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and multi-cultural environment
  • Experience with large international programs
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Excel and MS Office, Latex skills are a plus

Start date: As soon as possible
Fixed-term: 2 years (with possibility of extension)
Salary: The position is classed as salary group 13 according to “TVöD Bund (Tarifgebiet Ost)”. The salary group is determined on the basis of the Collective Wage Agreement and the respective personal qualifications.
Working hours: Full-time (currently 39 h/week); The position is generally suitable for part-time work.
Place of work: Potsdam
