GOCE HPF - Gravity field and Ocean Circulation Explorer High-level Processing Facility

Diese Seite ist zur Zeit leider nur in englischer Sprache verfügbar.

The HPF (High-level Processing Facility) is operated by EGG-C (European GOCE (Gravity field and Ocean Circulation Explorer) Gravity Consortium) under the contract of ESA, which is composed of 8 European institutions. Four blocks of activities have been identified at a workshop of the HPF together with ESA. These are (1) Level 1 reprocessing, (2) Improved GOCE precise orbits, (3) Improved GOCE gravity fields and (4) Utilization of GOCE data for ionosphere and atmospheric density studies.

One of the activities of this project is to generate a product containing slant Total Electron Content (TEC) and Rate of TEC index (ROTI) observations from the GPS observations collected on-board of GOCE. The GOCE satellite was equipped with a high-quality 12-channel dual-frequency GPS receiver, which delivered near continuous data at a 1 Hz sampling. These observations can help to provide a better understanding of the Earth’s ionosphere. The TEC and ROTI observations from GOCE would be especially beneficial because of the low altitude of the satellite, because of its near-polar orbit which is highly suited to observe high latitude irregularities and because of its post-sunset local time coverage near the end of the mission which is highly suited to observe equatorial ionospheric irregularities.
